eToro is a social trading platform that allows users to invest in other people’s trading. The great thing about eToro is that you don’t have to be a trader to use the platform and leverage the eToro platform to grow your investment portfolio.
There are two ways to trade on eToro review: a) Leveraged trading –also called “margin trading,” which requires you to put up money but gives you the ability to trade on margin; or b) CFDs (Contracts for Difference), which are not handled by real money but rather virtual money. Both of these trading methods have pros and cons, so it’s up to you which one you’d prefer.
If you choose to trade using leverage, you’ll need to click the “leverage” button on the trading platform. This button will only appear if you’re dealing with a power of up to 10x.
You can then choose to buy stocks, commodities, ETFs, or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and place an order. If you’re new to trading on eToro, we recommend you start by learning the basics with our guide to eToro trading and investing.
You can use leverage via CFDs, too, although the leverage amount will vary depending on your trading instrument. You can find more information regarding this in our guide on using eToro CFDs.
If you want to invest in bitcoin via eToro, you purchase Bitcoin Tracker One (CT1) contracts. CT1 is a derivative product that tracks bitcoin’s price movements by following its underlying reference rate, the CME WM Bitcoin Futures Index (BMF). Therefore, investing in CT1 contracts is simply buying a derivative that reflects your expectation of bitcoin prices moving into the future.
The different futures and CFD options are listed on the left side of the trading platform. They’re divided into three sections: “futures,” “exchange-traded funds,” and “cryptocurrencies.” You can click each section to see the full range of contracts available in that category.
If you choose to go down this route, you can then select a buying product displayed at the bottom of your screen. At present, Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency available via eToro. Still, other cryptocurrencies such as Ethereum and Litecoin are also covered via derivatives contracts linked to CT1, so you can invest in them if you wish. We highly recommend seeking professional advice before investing in any cryptocurrency or investment products as they carry considerable risk.
